Rowan Jacqueline
Originator and founder of TATTERED BUTTERFLY ARTS, Rowan has 20 years experience in Theatre and Dance as an Actor, Director, Writer and Facilitator.
The essence of her independent work sees the fusion of two disciplines. Firstly, that of theatre, with emphasis on the body as an instrument through movement and dance. Secondly, the profound life ways and art forms of the worlds ancient and indigenous peoples inspire her work greatly.
Rowan trained at Rose Bruford College (BA Hons in Theatre Arts 1989 - 1992), spending around 5 years working as a theatre actor after graduation.
On a parallel journey since the age of 19, Rowan has explored, trained with and studied indigenous and ancient cultures, their life ways and art forms. She has had extensive experience and training with the ceremony of Vision Quest over a 6 year period (2000 - 2006) and also worked with dance, healing forms and many other forms of ceremony.
In 1996, Rowan founded and directed THE KOKOPELLI COMPANY, a dance based community theatre celebrating the hundred way relationship between peoples and the natural world.
The Kokopelli Company worked to develop its own performance process, which served as foundation for continued development to come out of that time - and has evolved over the years into a comprehensive DANCE MOVEMENT system named SPIDERFLOWER. Spiderflower’s teaching structures now exist behind all present forms and have been the basis of work over many years around the UK and overseas.
Tattered Butterfly Arts, newly established for 2010, is an organisation that is the sum total of all years of development, houses Spiderflower as its teaching structure alongside dance movement theatre forums for MIXED ADULT groups, WOMEN only and CHILDREN groups under one umbrella.
Rowan currently lives in London with her beautiful daughter. She has spent a life time in dedication to the development of her work, it’s journey a tremendous adventure and always unfolding to itself.
In the light of the challenges the world faces today, it is her prayer it continues to evolve - and serve the people who come to it.
